Osho Acharya Rajneesh , born Chander Mohan Jain born on 11 December 1936 to Shri Babu Lal Jain and Smt. Saraswati jain in Kuchwara village, distt. Bhopal in Madhay Pardesh. H e was an Indian God man and leader of Rajneesh movement. During his life time he was viewed as a controversial mystic, Guru and spiritual teacher.
He lived with his grandparents during his early youth and then with his parents. He was an intelligent but rebellious child. In 1951 passed high school and started attending Hitkarini College in Jabalpur for further studies. He was forced to transfer to D N College after his disruptive behavior. Following his graduation has accepted a position as an assistant professor of philosophy at Raipur Sanskrit College. Again his radical idea soon put him at odds with institution’s administration and he was forced to find work elsewhere. Eventually, he became professor at the university of Jabalpur.He travelled throughout India,spreading his teachings and started conducting meditation camps and recruiting followers and ultimately resigned from his professorship. Now he became Acharya Rajneesh and introduced the practice of “dynamic meditation” which he asserted, enable people to experience divinity.
Acarya Rajneesh spent time in Bombay initiating followers known as “neo Sanyasins”. During the expanded his spiritual teachings and relocated to Pune where a foundation and Ashram was established to offer a variety of tools for both Indian and international visitors. By the late 1970’s tension between ruling Janta Party government of Morarji Desai and the movement led to curbing of the Ashram’s development.
In 1981efforts refocused on activities in United States, Acharya Rajneesh relocated to a faculty known as “Rajneesh Puram in Wasco county Oregon. He was later deported from the U S and twenty one countries denied him entry, and he ultimately returned to India. He reinvigorated his Pune Ashram where he died on 19 January 1990. His Ashram is today known as the ‘Osho international meditation resort’. Acharya Rajneesh’s teachings have had a notable impaction western “western new age thought’ and their popularity increased since his death. His Ashram is visited about two lacs people from around the world every year.
