Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is a well-known spiritual guru, a humanitarian master and an ambassador of stress-free and peaceful life. His vision of seeing the society free from violence has brought together millions of people from different parts of the world through his project,'The Art of Living', which he founded in the year 1982. He also founded in the year 1997, the International Association for Human Values (IAHV) for the purpose of nurturing the human values. Early years He was a gifted child who was born in the Southern part of India on 13-05-1956. His birth place is Papanasam district of Tamil Nadu. He was born to Shri R S Venkat Ratnam and Smt Visalakshmi Ratnam. By the time he completed 4 years of age, he was able to recite the various parts of the Hindu scripture book, The Bhagavad Gita. Education He is highly educated with a degree in Physics. Apart from that, he also holds a degree in the Vedic literature. He attended MES, Bangalore. As a leader of human values, he has provided the necessary assistance to the people from all walks of life dealing with different types of stress and trauma. Major works He was often found meditating right from his childhood. He invented a powerful technique for breathing known as Sudarshan Kriya, which later on played a pivotal role in the various courses formulated by the Art of Living group. As a spiritual leader, he has rekindled the various traditions of meditation and yoga and also formulated innovative techniques for personal transformation. He is the ambassador of peace and plays a pivotal role in the resolution of the conflicts and spread of non-violence across the globe.

Current Activities

At present, the Art of Living Foundation is successfully running its centre in more 152 countries with more than a million followers. It is a matter of proud that the Art of Living course has become an integral part of the training program conducted for the NASA Astronauts. He is the Chancellor of a university titled after him, the Sri Sri University. He also chairs the Quality Control of India Yoga Certification Committee. He is also an active member of the renowned Amarnath Shrine Board. 'Celebrating Silence' is one of the most celebrated publications of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar which is a wonderful collection of the discourses published chronologically right from the year 1995 till 2000.

Awards and Achievements

In the year 1986, He was given the title of 'Yoga Shiromani', by the then President of the country. In the year 1997, the Government of Maharashtra conferred him with the 'Guru Mahatmya Award'. His achievements include being bestowed upon with the highest civilian awards of different countries, such as Mongolia, Paraguay and Colombia and more than 15 honorary doctorates from different countries of the world . He is the recipient of India's second highest Civilian award, the Padma Vibhushan.
