Govardhan Puja

Govardhan Puja is celebrated as the day when Lord Krishna defeated Indra by lifting the Govardhan mountain. Most of the time it falls next day after Diwali Puja.

This day is also known as Annakut Puja. On this day food made of cereals like wheat, rice, curry made of gram flour and leafy vegetables is cooked and offered to Lord Krishna.

This day is also celebrated as Bali Pratipada in Maharastra. According to Hindu mythology, Vamana – an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, defeated Bali and pushed him to Patal Lok.But Bali was bestowed a boon by Vishnu to return to earth for one day on this day to be honoured and celebrated for his devotion to the Lord and for his noble deeds to his people.
